Hey, while I like A.M. personally, he's way too lazy and/or disorganized to make an effective ARM. Good luck in Hamilton!

I wouldn't want to mop up that mess in Hamilton! Especially not C141.

Do you think an account could look you in the eye as a BM or ARM and believe you when you tell them this time it is going to be different? Why should they believe that at all? I know I wouldn't.

The Hamilton market is so saturated with rental companies, that they have pigeon holed themselves into near obsolescence (sp). Body shops, dealerships, insurance brokers, etc... have all figured out the game. They basically want you to go out there and drop your pants just to keep Ecar's number in the same room as a telephone.

"When are you bringing us coffees?"
"When are you taking me out to lunch?"
"When are we golfing?"
"When are you gonna give my sister's friend's aunt a minivan for the long weekend and only charge $20/day?"

and my personal favourite from out in Stoney Creek:

"When are you going to take delivery of the rest of your 100 Chevrolets for this year?"

The fact of the matter is that rental has become such a joke that businesses can't even be bothered to explain to a new MT every 3 months who is out "marketing" why they stopped using Ecars the past 8 times because of a), b), and c). They just don't care. If you think you stand to benefit from a dealership more than they believe they can benefit from you, you are unfortunately grossly mistaken. Rental does not affect 99% of what goes on at a dealership. The service dept. really only cares about their customers, and trust me, cdw disputes, damage, paying for fuel, etc... are all headaches for service managers/advisors.

They really don't care at all about "great service" or "direct billing", this is just what you are lead to believe as a new employee.

It really is unfortunate, because I believe Ecars can be a great place to work. Besides being paid less than a high school dropout in a factory packaging plastic synthetic horse insemenators (once again, sp?), and trying to pay off some tens of thousands of dollars worth of education bills, it is great experience. For many people, it is a job that will show them business from the most simple stand point. It teaches you a solid work ethic, responsibility, and how to keep a low profile and slink through the ranks of corporate America.

They do however dangle that golden carrot pretty hard. It really doesn't take long to notice that you are praised and spoon fed compliments from the outset, but then as responsibility mounts and things go a little sour, they like to place blame squarely on the shoulders of subordinates.

For all the new jacks, if you have read this far, I say stick it out for at least a year, learn how to market not only your business, but yourself as well. And most of all, take your experience on to bigger and better things...

Believe it or not, there are jobs that pay well for 9 to 5, with no Saturdays, and that allow you to keep a pair of dress shoes for more than 6 weeks...

But in the end, Ecars is as much or as little as you make of it.

A fairly well-reasoned argument, with a dash of humour. However, the last point is a little troubling, IF it is read as either you can hack it or you can't. Still, it seems that, if I may be so bold as to interpret your implicit meaning, is that take whatever you can from Erac -- there are good things for the taking -- and bring them to wherever else you may end up. That's precisely what I did.

Precisely. You're gonna find hard times everywhere. Ecars gives many people the opportunity to advance themselves and get some credibility on their resumes, although not as much as you would have expected based on an interview.

Take what you can out of it... I've always referred to them as "transferable skills", meaning best put to use elsewhere.

Can you dig it?

It's just too bad they suck away your creativity and drive. The problem is you could be spending your time working on something that could bring satisfaction to your personal being instead of a few greenbacks.

I hear there's more "opportunities" coming up..

Who they cleaning house with next?

Tell me one thing, do the MT's see even one manager they want to be like anymore, or is that not even a factor.

"I look up to Mike Kennedy and Ian Yerrow. They're my heroes, and some day I'm gonna run my 12 cars just like that!"

How dare you say anything negative about the only 2 managers in that area with any integrity and pride. Ian & mike are hard working, honest and have worked thier way into thier positions. C1 has handed them nothing , especially Ian.
C1 is lucky to have them, Snelly would be an idiot to let either of them go!!

Then Snelly will probably let them go, unfortunately.

This is the funniest thing I have read on this board.... people in Hamilton actually have thought that for a while now

C1 hands nothing to anyone unless nobody qualifies ..... unfortunatly hard work and honesty do NOT get you promoted. They reward results(and they dont care how you do it). Not that they are bad guys but they are NOT leaders or performers (what did kennedy do in the year out at C146/47 ...nothing, how long was yarrow an AM.... there is a reason). They just stay under the radar and are defaulted into bigger branches cause there is no one else to take them.

And I wish them both luck in the 2 biggest nightmare branches in C1
