Next, they'll be tattooing pigskin from the buther's. This helps them practice skin stretching techniques.

After that, they will practice on what is called 'practice skin' which is a rubber sheet that simulates actual skin. These sheets are strapped on a partner and the student then tattoos the sheet. This helps them get used to tattooing at awkward angles and positions (i.e., not straight down on table like when they tattooed pigskin).

And lastly, they will hone their skills on actual clients who have agreed to be tattooed by students, fully acknowldeging their status. All student/client tattoo sessions will be fully supervised by myself and my other instructors. Note that I will let my students practice on actual live clients only when I feel they are ready. It is my goal to make sure that even the very first tattoos performed by my students will be professional grade, shop quality.
Instead of a grapefruit you should use a woman's breasts.

Default Toronto Tattoo School - Update

Hello...Rob dela Cruz, aka Cruzer, here...

Well, It's been 3 months since the first class of the Toronto Tattoo School started hacking away at grapefruit with their brand new tattoo machines. Now, they're tattooing clients with professional results. In fact, out of the 8 original students (actually, make that 7...one of them ended up in jail midway through the course), 3 of them landed jobs in the industry.

On with the January classes. I signed up 15 students this time. 10 part-time and 5 fulltime. With a tuition of $2500 each, it's safe to say that life is going pretty good in Cruzerland. Just do the math.

It's times like these when I look back and reflect on how my life was before this.....let's see.

4 years ago:
- getting up at 530am to arrive to work at 7am
- scraping ice off the windshields and starting the cars up
- washing cars in sub-zero weather, just to watch the soap suds freeze on the car
- gettin' yelled at over the phone by Shap
- making a trip to Money Mart or Cash Advance and taking an advance on my paycheque so I can afford Christmas presents
- missing spending time with relatives visiting from out of town because trying to take time off during such a busy time is unheard of (I tried anyway...and got yelled at)
- crappy pay, long hours....etc...etc...etc.

Present Day:
- getting up at 9am
- arrive at the Tattoo School around 2pm
- work on some tattoo designs for clients
- Tattoo someone....average 5-7 tattoo per week @ $100-$200 a pop...for pocket money
- Supervise students as they tattoo their clients
- realize that nothing I do now doesn't even come close to feeling like work...because I enjoy it so much
- taking the next 3 weeks off until the January classes start....because I can

Life is definitely better for me after E.

Happy Holidays

Cruzer

Couldn't hack it huh cruzer ;)

I kid, I kid. I kid 'cause I love.

Congrats! Glad to hear you are really "living the dream." Doing things by your own rules, on your own time, and doing something you love and brings real joy to your customers.

We raise a glass to you my friend.
