I think the math, is how little can they offer to string you along and work towards some bull*#it goals with the idea that if you do good you will reap some huge reward. You will try for a few years and after never getting a raise, you will get frustrated and quit, and some new manager will come along again and be happy with a low %, with the promise of big things to come. Meanwhile your area and city managers will continue to buy nice things and go on expensive trips while you struggle to pay the rent on your crappy apartment, and your girlfriend will leave you because she sees what an idiot you are for believing in the dream. But don't fret, there will be lots of company events for you to get it on with a fellow employee who understands your pain.

I agree that the company seems to have the "replace them with lower %, higher motivated employees" slant. You are also right in that the area mgr etc could give themself a raise by chasing off a highly compensated Mgr and replacing them with an "entry" level mgr and lowballing them % wise.

Doesn't anyone else get a little suspicious of a commission program in which they dial up or down the commission in order to hit a certain compensation target. Doesn't this sound like they want to pay you a certain salary but want you to think your compensation is limited only by your efforts and motivate you to keep hustling?
