Default Retention

You see Meanwell's comment in the newsletter celebrating his city going a WHOLE MONTH without someone quitting? What a terrible company he's just made us all realise this is. He has about 20 branches in his city which means between 80-100 rental staff. And he thinks it's remarkable that nobody has quit from this small workforce. How shit must a company be that it can't go a month without losing 1.5 - 2% of its workforce? What a joke!!

I'm glad Enterprise is the same in every country. Retention is a joke. People leave faster than they can hire. Get out while you can.

From my experience, there are two reasons why retention isn't even worse than it is - and they're not positive aspects of the job.
The first is that loads of people who want to quit don't have the time to look properly for another job when they're getting home at 8.30/9pm every night.
The second, and this is the one that I've seen most, is that people don't believe they're good enough to be hired by anyone else. This is because of the constant grief they get for not selling enough XS or DW, their insurance rate being rubbish, their marketing being crap etc. The number of peoples confidence I've seen shattered is sickening. Good, honest people made to feel like worthless scum because their ABI callbacks were only 85% complete.
ERAC is wank and Meanwell knows they've just had a fluke month losing nobody. He's fooling himself if he honestly thinks people want to stay because they're getting great training and development.

Got to agree with several points there. ERAC employees (myself included) have been made to feel like shit simply because they make small errors - generally as a result of poor training or tiredness.

I try to use my marketing days or take the occasional day off to look for work. There's something quite satisfying about using my days off this way, then getting asked "Hey, do anything good on your day off?"

Finally, when I started I was told that my group trainer that retention for new hires was 100% for the first year! I never believed that was true and if it was, it went out of the window about three months later when a colleague quit. I think that stat was used by the group trainer to further pressure people into staying. It's like saying "If you quit you'll be the ONLY one who can't 'hack it'."
