how does everyone feel about the way u4 operate the employee accident excess? what should and shouldnt be classed as an 'accident', afterall an accident suggests just that, it was an accident, where no negligence can be demonstrated in the employee, WHY should the company charge them for the excess? on the low basic salary's paid by enterprise, combined with the low commison, it makes a HUGE difference to your finances to have to pay out £300.00. what does everyone think? do you have examples of what happend (particularly if you are in u4) and were you charged?

The £300 excess charge is a scam, there is no doubt about it. I have had to pay out on it once and in those 3 months of paying it back I was earning less than the national minimum wage. From a Head Office perspective they feel they have to have a large excess because they employ so many young male drivers, yet they choose to employ them because they are cheap and willing to do the work that no other fool will do. ERAC are quite literally able to have their cake and eat it. As far as U4 is concerned there are a thousand and one examples of excess payouts. My own is very simple. My first accident was an actual accident and was my fault. I was caught out looking at an accident to the left of me when the car in front stopped and I bumped into it at very low speed. The gaulling thing was that there was absolutely no damage to my own car, so ERAC will not have had to pay a penny should the other driver have claimed. My second and hence chargeable accident was in our own car park when I was reversing around a corner and did not notice a car that had just pulled up to the side of me. I then reversed around the corner and swung the front of my car into the neighbouring car. This hence cost me £300. Now if the two accidents had been the other way around then technically ERAC would have not charged me anything as there would have been no cost to fix the ERAC car (although we all know ERAC would have charged me anyway). The upshot of the excess charge is as follows. If you damage a car then do not own up to it in any way, shape or form unless you actually hit someone else. If you do then you must own up otherwise you will be in trouble legally, but should you ever nick or scratch a car when no one is looking then just stick it on the contract and carry on with life. Don't feel bad because ERAC will get the money out of you anyway by swindling you on your wage.

What a shame that such an honourable person has left the company and is now able to pass on their expertise in lying, dishonest and unethical practices to everyone else. You crashed the car dumb ass! Try telling Direct Line it wasnt your fault!

Boy what a great company you work for. Enjoy being honest in a dishonest company and hence paying £300 excess everytime you so much as get a stone chip on the windscreen! |

I am happy to announce I have never had an accident in almost 2 years...according to erac that is. In actuall fact I have put a football sized scrape on a corsa, dented the rear of a vw passat estate.... and purposefully key'd an area managers car. gotta love the company..
