Good call. Texas history is very interesting. That's why we NEED an entire year to cover it all. Most other states only have six weeks of THEIR state's history in the curriculum. That's b/c it's not as vivid and fascinating.

I'm a native Texan as well. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Don't think we should seceed, though. The US would be a boring place without Texas. :) (And quite a bit smaller....)

•We still have our own military. The Texas National Guard (not sure if any other state has their own arms .. ie the Idaho National Guard).
• The majority of the main roads leading to Mexico come through Texas. While I am not really sure if this is a good or bad thing (lol) it does give us the ability to Import and Export with an international country with little ease.
•Texas is the only State which can boast it has every type of geographical landscape. Mountains, Beach, Plains, Forrests, Desserts, Swamps. etc.

Texans have historically loved to piss Washington off. We have a monument showing our ability to say fuck you, we are going to do what we want. The San Jacinto monument (near Houston) was being built and at the time Washington DC said no national momument can be taller than the Washinton Monument, so they built a platform which made it taller by 1 foot than the Washington monument. (while this isn't ground to break away from the USA it does show our attitude toward our independence).

Do I think Texas will secede, no probably not. Again.. I don't have hard economic, or political facts as to this being 100% possible, but there is enough facts(factoids) that several people have tried to make it happen in the last 50 years and it has developed a following. Hell we even have bumper stickers here in Texas that say... "Texas Secede".
