The biggest factor in a successful program is price controls, (as stated before) and I don't see anyone in the US going for that. -Doctors, Pharm companies etc.....

Dom - there was a 1 hour show on PBS this week with an American reporter investigating the different health care systems in Britian, Japan, Switzerland etc...He came to some interesting conclusions....the major theme was the programs were mostly non-profit and admin costs were kept down (6-8%, they said in the show that the US's admin costs were 24%).

The best part about it was that Switzerland just put National health care through in the last 30 years and while the original vote in favour of it was 51-49 it is now fully accepted even by the current right-centre government.

Anyways, you should try to catch it...

Do you have any idea what it was called? I will watch it, and I will keep an open mind. If this reporter turns out to be a lleftist I am going to take it with a big grain of salt.
You have to understand I am sceptical. I know you don't believe that our higher population makes a difference, but it really does. When a system becomes very large its complexity increases geometrically.

I looked it up...it was on Frontline on PBS called Sick around the World. I didn't feel it was biased, the reporter was just giving facts about different systems around the world and you can make your own conclusion. I think you can watch it online.

I live in America because my dad wanted better opportunities for his family back when China was dirt poor, so I came with him when I was a little kid. I'm definitely not ruling out a possible move to Canada or Ireland in the near future. If I end up in China, it will be for massive profits in the future after I establish myself here in the U.S., Canada, or Ireland.
