Right now down to the nitty gritty...I attended an assessment day and during the first hour we were
told that the company business is 8-6 m-f and 9-12 sats and that an employee "typically" works 45 hours a week (explanation for this was 8-6 =10 hrs*5days=50hrs and I presumed that 1 hr a day for lunch taken off = 45 HOURS any hours worked on a sat would be compensated for by having an afternoon off in the week). I appreciated that you may get the "Odd" telephone call @ 5.55 wanting a car and that is all part of the business..fair enough. I know this is what was stated as the person saying it was next to me.
I have just recieved my contract from the postman....and what a bunch of lies. Okay the company deserve poetic licence but what is this all about..
the "average" working week will be 48-55 hours and later in description of AM/BM duties states that the "average" hours are 55-60 per week. Now as far as i'm aware, in the UK, average refers to a 17 week period. So for at least 34 weeks a year an AM can expect to work 55+hours a week.
Then there is the Overtime, now correct me if i am wrong, i am going off the salary i was quoted of 15k pa for a MT. Working out the hourly rate (15000/52wks/50hrs=£5.76per hour and as for overtime this is paid at the same rate, quite how they figure O/T i dunno i presume (that word again) that anything above 55 hrs for an MT, so i doubt that much OT is paid.
Finally, on my rant, they have the *balls* to try and charge you £300 for any unrecoverd damage to a car whilst in your possession (personal not business) for 2+accidents in 3yrs. Now thats a bit rich, and before you all say "crap driver blah " i have 10+yrs clean licence and no accidents (fingers crossed). As a result I am going to call ERAC at tell em "thanks but no thanks"
