Default Good News for College Grads 2008

The economy sucks right now, people are having a hard time buying gas and grocericies but fear not wide eyed enthusiastic future leaders of business and industry, Enterprise will still be around to screw you over, but they are not alone

In a recent survey taken by Careerbuilder.com, 58 percent of employers are looking to hire recent college graduates. So enterprise isn't the only place for you anymore. You are in luck!! Explore some options don't swallow the ERAC hemlock like we all did and most importantly even if you do interview at ERAC act like you care (see below)

But beware 65% of companies say that recent grads don't dress well for the interview. What the hell are you guys thinking? You think because you spent the last 4-6 years in board shorts, wife beaters and flip flops for men and clothes that look like you came from a slutty music video for women that will fly in the business world?

Wait, the economy sucks right now, yet more companies are looking to hire fresh college graduates? I think you have got your information mixed up. I have friends that have graduated from Georgia Tech and UC Berkeley with GPAs higher than 3.5, yet they can't find a decent job right now. Of course, they have higher standards than somewhere like Enterprise.

Actually throughout periods of economic slowdown that tends to be the case. More experienced, expensive workers are getting laid off for cheaper labor. I work in industrial engineering and we are doing it all the time now, layoff one guy with 10-20 years experience making 100K, and hire two guys fresh outta college at 45K a piece, you save 10K, and aside from a couple month ramp up time, you've almost doubled your production.
IF you friends are business or engineering majors, something will come their way, the average grad doesn't find a job til 6-9 months after graduation.

That's what happens when you have a bullshit major.

Your friends can always go be a janitor at an adult bookstore. It's better than ECRAP.

Pay is the same, but the benefits are better.

The janitor at least can look himself in the mirror when he goes home.

You're absolutely right. My two friends that just graduated as electrical engineers; one of them found a job already and the other is going to grad school. You say that business majors are able to find jobs easily nowadays? I hope that's the case because my girlfriend is planning on coming to live with me in a year.

It took me 6 months after graduation to find the job that I'm at right now. My parents pressured me so much to find get a job as soon as possible and that's how I ended up at ERAC for 10 weeks.
