Rewarding for referrals is nothing new. Numerous groups have done it, and just because you are rewarded for bringing a new employee doesn't mean they won't stay. It's been a very successful program. Enterprise is not the only company who does that either.

It's much cheapter to pay an employee $1500--or offer a free vacation that's worth a little less, than to recruit on their own.

Some regions do a lot of hiring through outside agencies, who often charge $3-$6K per placement. One of my old regions spent money on temp agencies like it grew out of a RALPH machine. Even own recruiting efforts, between ads, college career fairs, mailers, etc., all add up to huge $$$$ (Take your average college career fair: include the cost of getting a table or booth, the cost of all the materials you'll need to distribute, the salary+commission of your recruiting manager for one day's work, reimbursement of his/her travel & entertainment expenses, the cost of your recruiting admin asst's time to sort through garbage resumes, the "weeding out" time spent, blah, blah... much easier to find someone in-house to reel 'em in for you).

I hope this means more candidates are discovering FailingEnterprise and steering clear of them, and thus it's getting harder for them to meet their recruiting goals.

Actually ERAC groups have been doing this for years. At least 5 or 6 years I would guess.

From the types of "bonuses" offered, they must really like employees who like to party.

Group 18 offers a 4 day trip to an exotic location (Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, cruises, etc) all expenses paid-yes drinks, food, airfare,etc-for any referral that makes it 3 months. They do not skimp-the trips are really nice-top notch all inclusive resorts. Very fun, actually.
