Up until very recently, I worked for Hertz. I managed a HLE for 3 years. Granted, it's the job isn't what you expect when you start & get more & more pressure filled as you progress. I would put most the daily ops on my ABM's shoulders because I would concentrate mostly on closing new accounts, running a profitable branch, growing volume and revenue and keeping the managers above me off my ass.
Why did I leave? I found out car rental is a great training ground. I'm at a new job working less hours for more money (even if you factor in a max bonus!)

Oh, station manager is one running the show at an airport. Alot less stress, steadier hours, not as much bonus potential and still have company car

You don't know what you are talking about. HLE is not Closing, Hertz was sold to a private investor group but operations are the same.

Hi All,

I am glad I found this site. I worked for Hertz At Denver DIA for almost 1 year as a station manager.

It Sucked big time. It was a pee on job from the start. I started in the Dispatch shack ( training period they called it .. yaaa ) in the middle of the winter. I was stuck with a dump trainer lets call him Drew … a loser basically that thinks he had made it in the coprporate world. He didn’t know how to train all he did know is how to kiss up to his boss the Assistant city manager that I am going to name Brent. Brent was nothing but another loser that was racist, bully , and an Asssss . He had been in the company for over 9 years and was passed on for a city manager several times because he liked terminating managers and employees for no reasons.

Then you have the HR manager let call her Denise for now. She was nothing but a Bitchhh to all.

I had worked my assss off for the year then they fired me for misuse of the car privilege as they claimed. See what they do .. they never make it very clear on how to use the car policy .. so when they want to reduce their work force for not making the goal for the quarter they just fire managers for misuse of car that they give managers to drive for free.

They go through managers like candy because the smart ones leave and the ones that stick around get fired.. that way they never get the yearly bonus and the company saves money. I got fired only one month away from getting the bonus…. And I was not the only one.

Just wanted to worn all future employees of Hertz what to expect… it was the worst management job I have ever had. Hertz Sucks big time.

I agree 100% never to work for Hertz. Believe it or not it is way worse than ERAC. HLE is losing money like crazy. Nobody is getting commission. City Managers are gay (literally). I'm glad I left ERAC, but no better at HLE. Upper management is shady and lies constantly (maybe because all the HLE directors are ERAC castoffs). Turnover is unreal. I left 2 months ago and out of 6 stores 5 managers left or were fired. Please don't ever go from green to gold. Get out of the industry.

I worked as a Station Manager for almost 3 years at PHL. It was my first job out of college and I was pretty deperate for a "professional job". Don't get fooled into believing this is some sort of corporate management job. It's blue collar with a salary. My only saving grace was volunteering for the overnight shift. It earned me brownie points and I was my own boss for 1 year. After that I was transfered to a distribution center and dealt with fleet stuff and only worked mon-fri 9-5. I no longer had to deal with customers.

My worst moment as a manager was being spit on and kicked after some re-routed flight passangers (mostly drunk) showed up at 3 am and the reservations center made reservations for cars I didn't have (an all too common problem).

Would I do it over again? Probably not. It is a pretty good resume builder and I learned a lot about the corporate world. Especially the "diamond in the rough" aspect of large work enviorments. There are a lot of scumb bags that work in the industry and you just have to ignore them. Promotions don't come from being a good guy, they come from being the last man standing. As far as salry is concerned, it sucks. They constantly pull out the company car exscuse during promotions and reviews. Don't get suckered into the company car B.S. Driving a different rental car every day can be a pain in the ass. especially when the only cars you have left are the ones that need repairs.

As for me now. I went back to school and became a pilot. Yes there are downsides to any job, but nothing beats cruising along at 550 mph dodging clouds and being anywhere in the country in under 5 hours.

After reading this entire thread, I feel that we could open a second website for Hertz and it would be a mirror image of failingenterprise.com. All your descriptions of HLE are identical to ERAC. All your misconceptions, lies, and slave worker experiences are identical to all that ERAC stands for. Like people have said in other posts, there is no lesser evil. HLE, Avis local, ERAC, etc. they all work the same way. Hire thousands of college grads, most of them half retarded, knowing that most will quit but a few will succeed with blinders on. ERAC is a paradox and the entire industry is a freak survivor of the 1950s worker drone mentality. But God damn, does ERAC pull in some cash. Maybe not 90% of its work force, but Andy and the brood must somehow manage to live with 24 hour hardons with the amount of money they are raking in at the expense of the slaves in the white shirts and ties.

You first turn in your resume to Hertz and they will assign two interviews. First interview is with a city manager. All you gotta act like is you're extremely motivated, you want to get promoted, and act like you want to make money. Also you gotta try to sell your cell phone or some stupid crap like that.

After that interview, if you do get a second interview you're pretty much in. Oh by the way getting into Hertz is very easy. I know someone who had a DUI on their record and was still able to work in Hertz. Anyways, as long as you report all your criminal offenses and stuff on your driving record you will be fine.

After the second interview they'll put you in a training class in couple weeks to a month. Training is about a month and you will be paid nine bucks an hour. The hours are usually from 8:00 to 5:00 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. In training you learn ways to sell, learn how to use the computers, and actually get a chance to work at the airports for a few days. It's a good experience and of course they hype up the Hertz experience. After you finish training you get a one dollar promotion.

no one makes 2500-4000 at hertz dream on, if you are lucky you may take 2200- 2500 home, they push you to sell insurance to customers and you have to make commision from it, so have to find some idiots to buy it other than it is very hard, i give up after 6 months.

I work for ERAC and have been VERY successfull. All these stories sum it perfectly. If you are not a winner, then dont work for a company who is made up of winners. There is a reason that ERAC is the number 1 Rental Company, we all succeed. If you dont succeed then you quit. The people who make the 6 figure salaries, again, are winners, not whiners. All I see on here are stories of whining and complaining.
