I was recently hired by Hertz. On the interview I was told, the base salary is $29,000. I assumed this would be for the 40 hr work week. On orientation I was informed that there is a 10 hour mandatory overtime. I figured, that 10 hrs paid by x1.5 will be a $21, since the hourly wage is (29,000/52)/40=$14.
Until I saw my first paycheck, which showed an hourly wage of $10.14.
I thought I will be fainting.
The paycheck was barely enough to pay my student loan! Having a bachelors degree and working for almost min. wage ($7.25)?
I'm currently looking for another job, because Hertz lied about the salary!
Turns out I'm not the only one who was deceived, but all other MT's with whom I'm currently attend the training course.
Is there any law that holds Hertz liable for lying and deceiving? On the interview they should've said that base is $21,000 + with the 10 hr mandatory overtime will bring you to 29K, I would've never waisted my time and their time.
Yet they try to teach you business ethics. What a joke!

Don't work for any Rental Car Company. All it does is turn you into a shady, shady fucker, who gets off on selling CDW to little old ladies who don't understand what you're selling and trust you because you're "such a nice young man"

Old ladies were the easiest. My mom even got talked into it after I told her not to buy it.

I always thought Blacks and Mexicans were the easiest. White dudes over 50 were tough and so were any kind of Asian. Younger people were easier too.

very true. my feelings on the subject are that mexicans are so new tothe country and not assimilated so they were scared not to buy it. Blacks are so used to being beaten down by "the man" that they were scared not to buy dub as well.

ERAC did the same thing to me - $30,000 a year salary. What they didn't tell me until after I accepted the position was that was based on a 49.5 hour work week (which really turned out to be a 55-60 hour work week). They also said a typical day was from 8am-6pm, with a one hour lunch. All of the branches in my Area opened at 7am, which means a typical day was 645am-700pm if you count the car shuttling we had to do after hours, with NO LUNCH. Had they told the truth, I would have known what I was getting into and told them no thanks.

I worked for HERTZ local edition right out of college. I don't know about now, but then they only paid $10 an hour, and required you work 50 hours a week and 4 hours pretty much every Saturday. Also it was frowned upon if you tried leaving for lunch. Take my advise and get a job somewhere else. Especially if you live in TN, the management is horrible and creepy.
