Hey Guys, I had a phone interview with ERAC yesterday for a staff accountant position. The recruiter said she wanted me to come in for a second interview. (Atlanta Area) She also said that this is more of a corporate position than sales, and I will be trained for 9 months about the financial aspects of the business such as payroll, financial statements, auditing, payables, etc.. and then I will get promoted to Financial Statement Analyst position. After that, I will be promoted to Accounting Manager position, and finally, I will be moved up to Business Manager Position. What she said kind of sounded too good to be true, and I decided to do a little research, and came across this site. I read almost all of the posts. My question: Is this a different position than most of you dissatisfied and unhappy folks had, or is it just another way to sell their-so called- worthless crap??? I would appreciate the feedback!

Don't you think that your rise through the organization would be greatly dependent upon your abilities? I would assume that whatever you were told would be based upon a "best case scenario". 9 months for training? Sounds to me like you will be paid the lowest pay scale for at least this period of time (no matter how good you are in each deparment) and if you're still there after 9 months you may begin to see some of those advancements - that is if they think you're the right candidate. More likely, after 9 months you'll be asked to take a job in the department you showed the best aptitude for and that's where you'll be when YOU start bitching on this board! But this is all a guess - maybe someone in corporate can tell you what it's REALLY like.

At once point I interviewed at for an accounting position at ERAC. It is a different position from the rental monkey you see at the branches. You will work in the corporate office making about 28K a year. You will not being dealing with customer directly and you will not be doing anything accounting based unless you call accounting correcting addition and subtraction mistakes at the branch level.

Base pay is not what is seems at ERAC. She is including overtime in that figure.

IF I were to work at ERAC today I would want to work in the Bus Mgt track. You can make some big $$ long term and be insulated from a lot of the turnover and headaches that the monkeys at the branches get. Most of the rental employees aren't smart enough to figure out if you are a genious or incompetent. IF you get a chance to get to a L3 Regional or Group Bus Mgt position you will most likely be making 6 figures. Some of the Group Controllers who have been around for a while are making in the millions per year. Seriously. Most are probably making $200-$800K a year. You will work 50+ hours a week and at a discount to what you might make elsewhere until you get to a L3 spot. My guess is that it might take you 5 years or more to get to 6 figures.

I would not do it at all unless you exhausted all your other options. I know bills have to be paid but look at this board it is not loaded with angry employees because enterprise is a good place to work. I know a lot people including myself that took the job with the idea that they will interview why working. However, it is almost impossible to find time to do this as the company monopolizes so much of your time and by the end of the day you will have no energy to direct towards job hunting.

17dd boy, Thank you for your insights. I am currently seeking a career change. (From sports recreation to accounting/finance). Since I do not have any experience in the accounting industry, I do not get many offers, this might be one of my few chances to crack into the industry. This is why I am still thinking about going to the interview with ERAC. I am really confused.

I would go to the interview and come back here to ask more question at that time. It never hurts to interview as you can use this one as practice so that you are better prepared when you get an interview with a a job that you do not have reservations about.
