What I Saw Today (FYI) I was getting one of my company vans washed this morning at a local car wash. It was about 8am as I was getting out to tell the gentleman what wash I wanted etc... As I was walking inside to pay I looked over and saw a young guy in a suit washing a car 2 buildings over. I stopped and thought to myself why is that guy washing a car in a suit when there is a car wash here? It took me a minute to remember that that was a local ERAC branch. It's been 2 years since working for ERAC in a different state so I guess that's why it took me a minute to realize, but it just goes to show you what the majority of customers probably think of ERAC employees. We were always told that companies loved ERAC employees because of there experience. I interviewed with another company while I was still working for ERAC and I was so excited to show this guy my "brag book". We talked for a bit and I explained all these great things I did at ERAC and busted out my nice brag book, he looked at it all of a minute and we moved on to other questions. I think companies look upon ERAC employees so highly not because of experience but because they know you have a high tolerence for putting up with and dealing with shit 24/7. Just think you get a bit of experience in AR's and management but most of your expereince comes in washing cars, repo cars, writing tickets, doing callbacks, running credit checks, dealing with customers, vacuming a car in less than 30secs, resetting a check engine light, putting air in a tire, picking up customers, delivering donuts, rubbing dealers nuts, drinking, drinking and drinking. All in all if you have any drive get out and get a job that pays you what you are worth. Use your college degree or what experience you have to do something other than the above list. Don't bank on the bullshit they feed you about 6 figures. I was the youngest manager ever in my old group and had the 2nd biggest branch by the time I was 24. I was always told I was on the "fast track", but I saw them spliting areas etc... and realized when my time came for a level 3 it wasn't going to be worth the pay in comparison to the BS. I took a chance and went out and started my own company. I'm extremely happy and have no regrets. In 2yrs with my own company I'm making what a top area manager makes and I have a life!
