I need Advice

I recently graduated from college (as in 3 weeks ago) with a bachelors degree in journalism and broadcast media. My first interview at ERAC went extremely well. She referred to me as new blood. I thought management training would be useful no matter where I end up, and I'm having trouble finding any job let alone one in my field. (At least this is the case in the city I live) I was also attracted to the idea of transfering seemingly anywhere in the country I'd want to. It's weird that people keep mentioning a reserved feeling because I've had that feeling since my interview, and it started at the mention of such long hours. I don't like sales. I don't like trying to push people into something they don't want. However, I am pretty desperate for a job. My second interview is tomorrow morning and this website is scaring me away. I don't know if I should thank you or be upset I was even referred to it (by my friend who is also interviewing.) Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

You mean that you don't like sales or long hours and you have a reserved feeling about taking the job? I would hope the fuck so. In order to get the job you will have to lie like there is no tomorrow. You will have to say that long hours are fine and that you love to sell. If you do that you deserve the pain you will experience down the road and if you come here and complain later about how bad the job sucks ... you will be in the same boat with half the people here (taking a job you didn't want because you needed the money then complaining about it not being the job you wanted).

run away. Enterprise in its entirety is a job about long hours, sub-par wages, endless office politics, and your promotability is based 100% on your ability to push an insurance product that 95% of the people have already. The only way to get promoted (and be "successful") is by lying to customers to utilize your fleet, con customers by being a pushy salesman, any working 50-60 hrs a week in a retail store (including weekends).

I know you may be desperate, but I would urge you to strongly reconsider Enterprise as an option.

case in point, say you decide you are willing to look past your ethics for a year and work at Enterprise; does a paycheck of a total of $800 for 130 hrs of work over two weeks seem worth it? $1600 a month...try living on your own, paying student loans, a car loan, utilities, entertainment budget, etc....on $1600 per month.

Your call....but you can never say "I didn't know, I was never told"

And dont let the fact that you can transfer anywhere be a reason to take your job. First, you can always move no matter where you were. True you might have to quit your job to move, but you can always find another job. Second, ERAC is a place where you can transfer, but did they tell you with every promotion you get you get transfered. This means if you want to make a lot of money, they might move you 300-400 miles away to somewhere you dont want to go.

Enterprise likes to act like its the best thing that came your way, when in actuallity its the worst. This website proves that for a lot of people. If you decide to work there, aside from the long hours, low pay, rude customers and perverted employees...here is what else to expect (these are all facts)

After hour company get togethers at a bar (they drag you there)

Mandatory X-Mas party that could be hours away

If you do make good "sales" (no comission). You have to go to the shitty sales dinner, also could be hours away on a week night.

They watch you like a hawk...dont post your resume online and keep an eye in your rearview on your drive to a job interview

Get to know your cleaners, you will be seeing them once a week.

If you have a boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse, tell them you wont be seeing much of them and when you do, you will be drop dead tired.

Kiss sleeping in and relaxing every other saturday goodbye

The best advice I can give is, the sooner you get out the better. Good Luck

Look, no one can tell you what to do. But, I would heed the advise of the many many posters on this site. If you are weary of taking advice from cyberspace then just go to a local branch and pull on of the MTs aside and just chat. Ask them are they happy with what they are doing washing cars with a college degree? Are others in the office actively job hunting? (When I was at ERAC probably 75% of the MTs some AMs and nearly all the Branch Managers were actively job hunting). Selling is the name of the game at this job and if you don't like sales (especially a product most people dont need) then listen to your inner voice.

If you like being broke, tired, lied to constantly and wearing stained clothes then ERAC is for you. I am betting you'll make the right decision and find a better job for yourself. Good luck, grad!!!

you have a degree in journalism/media broadcasting. You need a job that would use some of those skills. That degree and being an E-rac monkey cancel each other out on a resume.

If you just need a job to pay the bills until you find something you're trained to do, don't go to ERAC, apply to Home Depot. They start cashiers out at like $10/hr which is about what MTs make anyway. Plus if you have a job interview, you can tell them and they'll work with you. (Day off, swap shifts, etc...)
