I'm another female that works for erac, and it sounds like you my friend are jelous. I keep seeing these disgruntled ex employees complaining about renting cars and the long hours. You guys aren't seeing the entire picture, it's a BUSINESS (Profits, bottom line,money) and like any business you need "thick skin" as someone else put it (very clever).

Very few do get to the top, 98% don't. I think dropping the "follow the herd" mantality and not caring what mommy or daddy think, and doing something for yourself is the mindset you need. There is enterprise, and there are other jobs too, don't settle for the end all be all, it's not for everyone obviously. But with that kind of attitude, you won't go far in any job. Set the bar higher, and aim for what you want to achieve, if you focus on a looser attitude, thats exactly what you GET.

FYI-Don't put your eggs in one basket, invest as well, stocks,real estate.

I liked the comment about people who work at ERAC have the skills of a shaolin master...that was funny...but I don't ever want to have to LEARN THE HARD WAY...THANKS TO EVERY FORMER EMPLOYEE for the "heads up".

To make it to the top:

- have to be a very convincing person for a customer to purchase CDW, PAI & SLP. (Alter rate of car to include one or more of these into contract, that or 0531 the extra charge)

- Be lucky that your branch already has a good ESQI or fellow co-workers who can make sure their customers are satisfied (either you tell them that they might get a call and make sure they will say they're satisfied, or before closing the contract, just put in a friend's cell number or your number in the home phone number segment)

- Upsell!!! (Their car is not available but a bigger one, upsell the features even though if they bitch & complain, you'll eventually give them a free upgrade)

- Land corporate accounts (They way Enterprise deals with corporate customer is just about the same with regular customers. I know that Hertz corporate customers, the contract is all written up and plus if a customer frequently rents then they usually get free upgrades. Whereas in Enterprise, we try not to hookup people due to business ethics. What a load of crock!)

Getting the above done will ultimately get you top performer and lunch/breakfast with the top management. This is where your brown nosing and ass kissing will take you away to the top! There was this one girl, who was plain simple ugly and fat, she was going up against this other girl who was alright good looking with a better body figure. They both were trying to get a BM position because both were AM. Guess who got the promotion? The Area Manager was a male BTW.

The bottom line is that with the job market improving there is becoming less and less of a reason for a person with a 4 year degree to start at Enterprise. As an assistant manager you will work about 60hrs a week for a mere 36k? The job market for college grads is better than that in many states already. And it will continue to improve for the next several years. Enterprise will catch on as their talent continues to decline. Ambitious people want to make money!

Hacking is what you do the next day when all your coworkers have gone out all night drinking with the other ERAC employees until 2am Wednesday night and can't even drive safely. I worked a 200 car branch with the only other sober guy for a day because everyone was so hung over - not fun. No one else could drive
to pick people up, but I "hacked" it.
