can someone request days off from work? or is it mandatory that you HAVE to be there unless you have an emergency?

Well, you are free to REQUEST the days off - in my experience, management was always also free to DENY the request.

You must request months in advance and heaven forbid that you request a monday or friday off. That's unheard of. You are not a team player if you don't work Monday's or Friday's.

BS....if you have choice time...YOU HAVE CHOICETIME!!!! Read your handbook...if you request just like they require them they CANNOT deny it. On the other hand...if you have no choicetime available...you can still request...tell them you need a break before you BURN out...that usually works well.

By the way...you can't help the team if you don't take care of yourself.

Oh, I've seen legitimate requests for Choice Time and Vacation days denied. Immorally and against the company's own policy, but I've seen it done many times.

I've seen cases many times where the ARM thought someone might be using a CT or Vacation day for an interview, or to quit thereafter, only to see their request denied for no justifiable reason - Just because the ARM got nervous.

If you want the days off bad enough...call your HR manager and read her the policy book. After a couple of times they stop denying your requests. Worked for me. They also said..."yes, we understand you have 22 paid days available and that your husband has been in Iraq for six months and you had a baby while he was gone...but you can't take 2 weeks in a row off." If the policy book doesn't read that way specifically...and it doesn't...then you have a big fat settlement out of court waiting for you if they deny or fire!! Enjoy your time off!!!

Request a day off, or call in sick.. it's the fastest way to be FIRED.

Don't even think about a vacation.. your job will NOT be there when you return.

You are retarded. I worked there for a year and saw one person fired from the whole region (false accounting). Everyone got vacations they asked for as long as it wasn't a major holiday. Asst M's, BM''s, and area managers even took big holidays off. I called in sick 4 times over the year with no problem. Sure they don't like it but nobody ever gets fired.
