Default with everything being said here...

i still think i can give it a try...i have an interview friday morning...i'm a recent college grad who had hopes and dreams of having this great job upon graduation...but, yeah...that didn't happen...so i'm looking for basically just some management experience somewhere other than a retail store in a mall...

customer service i think is the number one top priority, that's how i would run my business...i dunno...i've never worked in the rental car industry...but i've worked a lot of crappy jobs and have always had a good time...

anybodie got any pointers on how to really land the job??

Just show up, they'll hire you. However, don't drag yourself back here in 6 months saying you didn't realize how bad it could be! You've been warned....It's every bit as bad as you read here. Don't be so hard-headed.....Look somewhere else while you still can.

First, if you are lucky you won't be interviewing in an area that will just hire you for showing up.

I would recommend going in with some knowledge of the company itself. Read the Enterprise website. Know who the founders are and maybe a little bit about them. Sell the interviewer on the idea that sales are one of your strong points. They will probably ask you to tell them about a customer you had problems with at another job and will want to know how you handled it. (Try to think of one you handled on your own without the help of a manager, etc.) They may ask you what your idea of good customer service is. They may ask you to sell them on some obscure product or idea, mostly to see how you think on your feet. They will probably ask at least one or two off the wall questions, also more to see if you are receptive to unexpected situations vs. having that body language that says you are stand offish when things aren't cut and dry. (A typical comment of that sort would be something along the lines of "Tell me why I shouldn't hire you"). Go into the interview knowing what the package sales they offer are (CDW, PAI, etc), and express confidence in your willingness and ability to sell the product.

Also, be wary if they don't mention a lot of the stuff that people whine about on this website. If you are going into a good area they are going to be picky, but they are also going to mention that you are expected to wash cars, work long hours, deal with pissy customers, and sell yourself as well as them and their products. If they don't put some of the negatives out there and you perceive that they may be attempting to paint a portrait of a perfect job I recommend walking away. It is the strong areas that are built on employees who can't say they were tricked during the interview process and walk in the front door the first day having some idea what type of work they are taking on.

Good luck!

Okay so you said your looking for management experience right? Keep in mind that you have a bachelors degree and your not starting off as a manager. Your starting off as a manager trainee. That means absolutely nothing on a resume if your not actually a manager. Okay first of all your probably thinking your going to become a manager quickly. Keep in mind that your promotions is based on performance. Now normally in a company your performance is based on how your perform in your position. This is not true with ERAC. Your performance will be based on how many people you can push to purchase cars from ERAC which is not even part of your current job as an MA, you will also be require to refer a number of friend of people to your job to be hired. What kind of company is going to hold your promotion on how many people you can get hired? Remember you job description is going to be: Greet customers (same as retail) type of tickets (same as retail checking out clothes) dress for success, never anything less than skirt and heels with nylons (worse than some retail) and lets see here washing cars in your new $300 suit (extremely worse than retail). Having to chaufer gross people around in cars (doesnt happen in retail), hmmm its funny how there really isnt a whole lot of MANAGEMENT experience involved in your job description. You will learn some of the operations of the business. If your going in for experience, its not worth it. If your in it for a career, well say good bye to your social life, relationships and good looks.. (those tacky bags under the eyes, YEAH! they'll haunt you!) oh and remember on average the pay is like $10 an hour.. and thats if your in an area that has a high economy. Expect to be poor. Great job for those kids that still plan to live with parents till they're 25-30 and the only social life they plan to have is happy hours with your co-workers. Expect to gain some weight also.. and stock up on prozac, your gonna need it to be happy.
