The thing about the E is learning to cut through the bullshit and take it as it is. Yeah, its a starter job for most employees (lets face it, no company can support an 80% management structure, so not everyone is gonna make it). And its true that all the accolades and attention go to the shining star of the moment, but that's how the real world works. Don't expect a trophy and a cash prize just for showing up; participation ribbons are for 6 year olds and mongoloids. I know a lot of you leave for the Pharma sales; do you think you'll be getting email props and a mention in the newsletter when your performance is somewhere around the 40th percentile? Probably not.

Another thing to realize is that there are a lot of shitty managers and employees at a lot of companies. Despite what Admin and the Can'tHacks want you to think, Jack and Andy don't sit in the Halls of Sorrow dreaming of new ways to torture college grads. A message gets sent from the top, and lost in translation (usually around the ARM/BRM stage). Example: Corporate/SVPs say "Cut working hours to create a more hospitable working environment for your employees." GMs and RVPs then say "You're putting too many hours on your employees, manage your personnel." ARMs then say "You're personnel is outrageous, cut it back". The shitty BRM will usually then say "You need to clock out at 6, no matter what, and count yourself out for an hour lunch that you will eat at the Callback desk." One small idea can get twisted into some horiffic, abusive practice due to a shitty manager. Or you get the smart manager who will short staff themselves to save the headache of answering the Hours question after an exit interview, and you're life is palatible.

So there you have it: some people succeed by doing the right thing, a some people do it by abusing others. Like it or not, this shit isn't particular to just E. It happens everywhere. Get used to it. You will always run into asshole managers, coworkers, subordinates, etc. They've infiltrated everything, from your corner store to the Whitehouse. Learn how to rise above (beat 'em or join 'em, whatever works for you), stop waiting for the handout or gold star you didn't earn, and remember one truly important thing:

NO ONE IS MAKING YOU FUCKING WORK HERE.

And for all the ABRMs who pose on here as former ARMs with "badass" pharmaceutical rep sales jobs (mostly effeminate dudes and ladies with spectacular racks), I'll be waiting for your posts at failingastrazeneca.com after the Dems give us bullshit national healthcare ;-). There's a reason the Canucks take tour busses over the falls in droves to pay straight cash for doctor's visits and presciptions.

Im closer to living the dream! Improve a spot and get promoted! ERAC ROCKS! I sold the most this branch has seen in months! My co-workers there must be on this site because they truly suck at selling! Can we say cant hack it? If you're reading this, go ahead and quit loser! You're taking up space for people who really want and have the ability to succed! Today after work I got some brews with my buddies. I told how much the other guys sucked at my new branch! HaHa!

I too sold the most, worked the hardest, constantly outshone all of my coworkers and was asked to fix 5 branches in succession , which I did. The day that you can't hack it is the day you realize you are just a piece of meat for the fodder. No one should have to "hack" their job. There are pros and cons to every thing in life but open your eyes. They use that old line to keep you under control until they no longer find that you are of any value to them. Take it from a former "golden child". Get out while you can before they turn on you and destroy your life, and they will. You are a rookie and cannot see the true evil of ERAC.

Man, I got killed today! No cars and tons of customers. I didnt get ou of there until 3:00! But metal in the parking lot isnt making anyone money. I again sold awesome in spite of the tight fleet! Once again Im outshining everyone else. My ARM called to get my stats and said lunch is on him come Monday! ERAC Rocks! No wonder this branch was in the pits. My now BM is an idiot! I felt like telling him to just go home since I was handling everything! Doesnt matter Ill have his job soon enough. He obviously cant make at ERAC. Well time to continue drinking and partying. Seriously, I am not hypnotzied by shit. Nor am I a rookie. I've been doing this over 5 years, 2 as an AM and 2 as a BM. I've seen 90% of the BMs in my Region turnover in those 5 years. Its a starter job, it has always been a starter job, it will always be a starter job. The select few will make it through beyond Level 3, but I recognize that's the slender minority.

It is what it is. I am a "golden boy" now, will assemble a large collection of brag-worthy emails, stats, dinner awards, and take it to a sales, banking/finance, or marketing interview when the tide turns. That's the point I was trying to make: this crap happens at a lot of places, its not unique to the Big E, and when all else fails, bounce. It takes a pretty special individual who lets a starter job "ruin" their life. I am sure there are a million sob stories about vengeful ARMS and BMS calling prospective employers, giving negative referrences, or other illegal HR procedures, but there's a fix for that, too. Cut all contact with the company and its employees. You left, they may have been coworkers or friends, but they're dead to you now. Don't leave a trail, vanish on the wind like a trace of smoke from the cash-qualified PT Cruiser. Done.

Regardless, take it for what it is. Build referrences, create some form of "verifiable sales track record" (as required by any account management interview), and roll out with your foot in a door it may not have previously slipped into. And don't listen to the dipshit bleeding green MT who keeps posting about Guitar Hero and how shitty her BM is. She'll get promoted to AM soon enough, and that'll knock the wind out of her sails.
