Default ERAC health & safety violations

ERAC in the uk is treading a very very dangerous path by ignoring at all levels the Health & Safety at work act 1974. contrary to what erac in the uk beleive, this act sets down various provisions that at the very least an employer MUST (not optional- this is the law!) do to safeguard all employee's and visitors from accidents at work. As anyone who works at ERAC will know, ERAC do nothing about health and saftey at work, it is only a matter of time before a serious incident occurs, and an individual and their family are left paying for the negligence of a huge multi-national company. As well as a civil claim against ERAC for any loss/injury suffered, the Health & saftey Executive would investigate any breach of regulations, and where appropriate UNLIMITED FINES (this is the only bit senior management will take notice of) can be imposed, historically large companies are the subject of very high levels of fines being imposed.

Any incidents contrary to the H&S laws can be reported directly to the H&S executive on 0845 345 0055, they also have a very good website containing clear concise guidance on the law.

Nearly all the branches in U4 are totally inadequate, in terms of Health and Safety, i have only been with the company 6 months and i understand that numerous and more established employees have tried to address and resolve these issues, which are satatury requirments of any company, to no avale.
I am sure you will agree that the health and safety of all employees and the general public are paromount, i have therfore taken this matter into my hands, whislt i was trying to keep my actions hush hush, i feel you all should know that i have been meeting with health and safety officials based in Shefield since August 2005, to discuss the ongoing issues and to provide them with evidence, as you can imagine this is very time consuming, not to mention my own financial position.
I can assure you that at least 6 locations are under investigation and visted reguarly by officials who pose as rental customers, action will be taken place during the months of February and March 2006, if no improvements are made.
I have also being informed that 2 of the vehicles which they rented including a V2, turned out to have noticeble defects. The HSE has refered these incidents to the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency ( VOSA ) for their attention, also during there rental experience on 3 occasions, they noticed several breaches involving data protection issues, this incident has been refered to the Information Commisionaire and also to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association ( BVRLA. )
I Hope that this reasures you and that this is infomation is seen by Higher Management and acted upon immediatly.

Another area of UK law that ERAC manifestly ignores at ALL sites surrounds the disposal of 'hazardous waste', some changes were made to the law on 16th July 2005. 'hazardous waste' includes the following (to name but a few items) * oiled rags (ie- those used to wipe the dip-stick when checking oil)

-oiled rags CANNOT be put into a standard bin, they MUST (it is LAW!) be disposed of correctly, at my branch, and every ERAC branch they just get put into the standard waste bins!! this is illegal.

*water from valet bay (ie-car wash water/chemicals

a business CANNOT just let this water run into drains, or even worse-into the water course, it must be at least partially filtered before being disposed of, oil and other chemicals MUST be removed before this happens!, again-this not done at any branch!, and this is UK law!

**these two examples are the most obvious ones that erac just ignore, there are many many more.
**it costs money for a large bussiness to behave in a repsonsible mannor, and ERAC would rather make a little bit extra money today, than safeguard the environment in the UK for future generations- it is the responsbility of everyone to not let them do this.

** the environment agency has just received further funding of £4 million to tackle issues like this, their Hotline number (to report incidents) is

0800 807 060, dont take my word for it- see www.environment-agency.gov.uk/

BRANCH MANAGERS ! It is your responsibility to ensure that your branch meets relevent regulations, any breaches or concerns are your responsibility, dont leave yourself open to prosectuion, discuss this is with Higher management and save all emails etc that you may send to Higher management for future use.

If an incident was to occur Head office would only pass the book onto you, BEWARE.

LOOK AFTER YOUSELVES.

I can feel a stiff breeze............a stinky waft of pooh...........

Oh dear...........it would appear that the shit has hit the fan.........

This is great.................You may want to check that you have RCB sockets fitted to your valet bays aswell. That your guys are not washing cars outside, where all of the equipment is getting wet.....

RCBs are not required as we have MCBs in use, yes i know its b***SH**, but very worrying, with regards washing cars and i presume hoovering in the wet. our valeters, or should i say the only one i had before he left ! have being provided with rubber gloves, to protect them against electric shocks, its cheaper than fitting RCBs.

ERAC can only subrogate liability to a BM if they can PROVE they have taken every step to provide training / support and have regulated H&S at the company- ENTERPRISE HAVE NOT!
