You do not have a clue do you. You need to grow some brain cells. An £8.50 rate is shit. And will not make your business a profit

its not about profit, anyone who knows anything business knows you have to make a profit, but its the manner in which we do it that defines ourselves.

No they don't. National went tits up, Hertz nearly went the same way a few years back too. Where ERAC makes money consistently is in used cars sales. It makes sense to look at ERAC as a holding company for cars. They buy huge amounts of cars and thus negotiate incredibly low rates (at one point, Vauxhall were selling corsas at cost plus £20 including a ful tank of petrol to ERAC). Essentially it saves dealerships having a shitload of cars that they are losing money on - when a customer wants to buy a used car they get one from ERAC or whoever, the dealership don't pay any depreciation, and the customer gets a relatively good deal. The fact that the US branches make money in rental, whilst in the UK (where the used car market is oversaturated) only goes to show how poorly ERAC have though about their business.

whereas enterprise dont exactly control the used car market, they are the biggest seller of used cars in the country. A couple of years ago in orlando Andy Taylor issued a war cry - basically enterprise have deeper resources than everyone else so they wil not get beaten in a price war. Makes sense at the top end until you realise that, even if Andy has deep enough pockets to sustain this, the branch managers who are paid from the branch and without andy pouring extra money their way, do not. Hence they quit for something better paid, enterprise loses experienced staff, promotes inexperienced staff to replace them when not ready, which leads to low morale, and further staff losses. RBS may be a root of the problems here, but this business was taken on as part of a wider company policy (beating the competition on price). Still much as an oil tycoon could lose 500,000 in Vegas in a night and not be worried, i`m sure andy isnt either.
