Default min wage going up to 5.35/hour

if you havent heard yet, the national min wage is going up again to 5.35, this is going to put erac in a sticky situation.....the car preps are going to be earning as much as a trainee....for much less shit...

so come on..jack in your MT jobs and become a car prep, the only difference that you will notice is you will have to put up with less shit...and the real bonus is that Frosty will ignore you!!

perhaps you need to do your sums. car preps will be on 14,378. Mt's earn much more than this, and have prospects of promotion and bonus ect. You really should prepare a better argument before posting such negative posts.

I think the point of interest is the PER HOUR SALARY.
Car Prep Drivers will have a basic of £5.35 per hour.
While MT's arent paid hourly, if you take the minimum 50hr work week and break it down to a per hour rate an MT earns £5.88 per hour.
...
now...
:erac does present you with the odd bonus here and there
:and erac does take you in as a Management trainee
:erac does promote from within.
but....
- bonuses are sales related only. Operations, initiative, work ethics, helpful contribution of personal skills & knowledge, going the extra mile, working repetitive late evenings, non of this will get you so much as a genuine thankyou from your ARM.
- you will receive no formal 'Management training'.
- your degree / work experience means that you earn a whole 50p more than a common unqualified skivy. (which really stings your pride)
- you will only get promoted when someone else realises how shit it is and leaves! (or you threaten to leave yourself).

Trust me - this company does not value you, it values your physical ability to drive cars, get signatures and lie to people to avoid the truth.

Bang on. The only reason MT's got a pay rise last year was because of minimum wage going up.
Another bonus for trainees? Well try not to damage a car twice in 3 years. Otherwise you can kiss £300 AFTER TAX off your pittence of a wage. So take £100 per month after tax off a trainees wage and then ask who earns more, car prep or trainee for the next 3 months?

And for all you purist 'well don't crash the car then' respondents remember that it is the added pressure that the MT's are put under to collect already late customers coupled with the completely irresponsible long hours and hence no sleep that causes the employees to make 2 mistakes in 3 years!

I've thought about this and I've spoken to friends who have company cars / drive co. hire cars / pool cars for whatever reason to see if what ERAC is doing is unreasonable. The resounding answer is "yes!" In the majority of cases the answer was "If it's on co. business, i.e. if it wasn't for work I wouldn't be driving, then I pay nothing, the co. sorts it out" A few said they have to pay an incrementally increasing amount starting at £50 and maxing out at around £150!

Truth is, they'll spin it to you like "well if you drive safely it's no problem", all the while spinning that growth is inevitable as people keep crashing their cars. Fact is that if you drive around long enough in busy traffic you WILL have some sort of accident!

The fact that ERAC shoulders the responsibility onto you (and don't forget, most accidents are parking related, so damage is minor and ERAC pays nothing) means that on the month you have an accident, on co. business, means your net pay (in the UK) will go down to about £800, Hows that for a graduate job, earning sub-minimum wage!!!!

So, in answer ti 8moss and the unregistered, if you make it in ERAC and make your big money then congratulations, but look at not only what you're going through, but what you're going to have to put everyone else through...
