yep, u4 are doing the same thing, BUT although this is legally possible, there are certain processes and employer MUST take when doing this / consider doing this, and knowing how bad erac HR are at following any processes, I would advise anyone who is going to fall into this category to get some advice from a union rep...

Do you really think ERAC want to sack off all the minimum wage drivers costing the company fuck all but doing plenty of the hard work? Of course not. Here is how it plays out.....
ERAC has plenty of big big big earners from back in the day. Days when Money was good, flip was great, %'s were better. Over time these top dogs have earnt more and more. Most are now reaching Level 4 and officer level. They are bleeding the company dry by earning a shit load and contributing very little.
Most Top earners do retire early, 45-50, but plenty are riding the gravy train and milking the cash. Why would they retire at any age when they can coin it in. So, ERAC brings in the rule that ALL employees must retire at 65. This is designed to get rid of the top earners when they reach retirement age, in order to A) save £, and B) continue progression from Officer level to MT level.

Now, the flip side is this. Every driver must also retire at 65, otherwise MR bigshot level 4 will sue ERAC for all its worth. So yes, its shit for the drivers, but its not meant to be directed at them. Lets face it, we all know the semi retired drivers are the best around.

Believe me, the group drivers are on far more than the minimum wage. Hour for hour they earn more than the MT's.

Problem being for most of U5, espically the Bristol area is they are losing about 70% of their staff. At guarantees are they aint replaced by drivers, but half arsed trainees, who we intially refused at interview stage as well!
