Dear Failing Enterprise,

You mentioned how you get "overcharged" with your corporate account, and how you often spend more money with your corporate rate than you would if you just booked normally through the website. On the surface, this looks true, but if you paid a little bit closer attention to how your account works, you might recognize that even though your rate looks more expensive than the online rate, it probably INCLUDES the damage waiver and liability insurance that you pay an additional price for every time you rent. So, in reality, it is probably LESS expensive when you consider adding in the damage waiver and liability insurance onto the regular rate.

Also, especially at airports, retail rates fluctuate - A LOT. So let's say your corporate rate is $45/day for a full-size car. The online price might be $28/day one day, and then depending on availability, might be $75/day the next day. And since, as you yourself said, availability can often be limited, most of the time the regular price will actually be higher.

And finally, if you paid attention during your meeting/phone conversation with the corporate account manager who set your account up, you would have probably heard him or her talk about a "best rate" program. If this concept is too difficult for you to understand, let me spell it out: You get the BEST RATE. No matter what the regular rate is, yours will be BETTER. Let's use an example. You see a car online for $35/day? Your rate might be $31 or $32 ( i.e., BETTER). You see a car online for ONE DOLLAR a day? Your rate might be $.90. Do you see where I'm going with this? If you're so concerned about being "overcharged" when regular rates happen to be low, why not go with this option?

You advise people to do their research when considering to make a website similar to yours, and I suggest that you take your own advice. Everything that you say on your site is true only on the surface (if at all), and you clearly have no interest in delving any deeper into why some of these things happen. You just prefer to believe that "your car is ready but it's simply not here" because we rented it to someone else first. You fail to realize that it may be because the car you were going to get has an expired tag and the renewal is at another branch, or because the airbag light came on and it isn't safe to rent, or because there's a priority recall on that car, or simply because the last customer who rented it failed to bring it back on time. In fact, most of the problems that you mention are completely out of control of the people who work at these branches.

We go to work everyday and just try to do the best job we can, like everyone else (including you).

Dear Failing Enterprise,

This is clearly the most narrow minded website on the planet. Your arguments are weak and your website lacks coherent thought. I'm sure if we met on the street I find the owners manual to my refrigerator more interesting than listening to your incoherent babble about how ERAC has made your life miserable. Since you seem to like using Seinfeld in your argument you should take some advice from him and become the master of your own domain.

Sincerely,

R.L.

Dear Anonymous Ranting Person,

Your site gives a rare peak inside the mind of a true passive-aggressive. So you got cheated out of a few bucks. So you wasted 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there over various hassles. The only reason these problems were repeat problems is because your dumb-ass kept going back to ERAC. Hello......there are other transportation options out there.

Your passive nature comes out in face-to-face situations where you let the ERAC staff walk all over you and treat you like crap. Your aggressive side comes out in the form of psychotic internet rantings.

I have used ERAC a couple times with good customer service. In recent years, I have gone to other companies mainly because I have found better rates. But guess what....that's how a free market works. If ERAC's problems are truly pandemic, as opposed to isolated incidents, they will fail all on there own.

If you think your ERAC experience was horrible, good luck buying a car. Car salesmen are much worse. In fact, I don't recommend it for you. First, seek professional counseling. You need to learn how to be more assertive in situations like this. Then, maybe buy a car, but only with a friend tagging along.

On the other hand, maybe you are just a disgruntled ex- or current employee. In which case, that is a whole different agenda. Your anonymity strongly supports this possibility.

Either way, you have in no way discouraged me from considering ERAC in the future. I have no incentive to believe the rantings of an anonymous person when I am perfectly capable of going by my own experience and ability to negotiate even the simplest contract.

Seek help my friend,

Dear Failing Enterprise,

FUCK YOU!

#41.  2006-09-12

Dear Failing Enterprise,

I noticed that even when someone politely disagrees with the assumptions of this website, it goes to Hate Mail, so I guess that is where this will go.

My son has worked for enterprise in the North Texas/Dallas area for about 2 years and has been promoted to Branch Manager.  It was hard washing cars in a tie in 100° weather.  The hours are long. It has taught him a great deal about business and customer satisfaction.

A lot of what has been said against Enterprise is true on the surface, but not when you look into it.

1) People have screamed at him because they said Enterprise would deliver a car.  My son had to explain that Enterprise will pick you up (not deliver).  Some of you have had to wait to be picked up.  Unfortunately Enterprise does not have dozens of people to pick you up, but they will if you can wait.  If they had enough people to pick you up instantly, you could not afford the rental.

2) If you didn't have Enterprise, you could do what I did as a younger man.  When my car was broken, I walked or bummed a ride.  Believe me, your friends appreciate Enterprise as the "anti-bum-a-ride" antidote.

3) Insurance agents tell you that you do not need the damage waiver or liability.  With damage waiver, you do not have to file a claim on a new car that you are not used to driving.  Plus most damage is fender bender types like found in parking lots and garages.  Just hand the keys back to Enterprise upon returning the car and forget about it. Remember the Fokkers.

4) If an insurance agent tells you not to take insurance, this is for you.  If you total the rental car and God forbid, you total another car and it is your fault, remember that your are covered UP TO YOUR LIMITS.  Your insurance will cover who you hit and if anything is left over, they will apply that to the rental car.  Better hope you have enough liability. I am not a lawyer and I am not giving legal advice, but I am told that you might be able to sue the insurance agent that told you not to take it, "you are fully covered".  My understanding is that the agent is an authority figure and expert in the area of insurance in your mind and he may have mislead you.  In any event, your insurance premiums may go up.  The agent is probably not your best friend.  He may actually be in business of making money off of your insurance. Maybe higher rates are in his best interest.

Besides, what insurance agent would tell you that your insurance is inadequate. Maybe you would ask why he didn't tell you that when you were his prospect and not a client.  If this is over your head, just consult an attorney if you have an accident under the above conditions.

5) Liability insurance, from my understanding, will cover you and again, you will not have to file with your insurance.

6) Yes, credit cards will cover damages on your rental car.  Again, I am not lawyer but: A) Make sure your credit card payment is not late. B) Make sure your car is a type that is covered C) Make sure you read the fine print D) Credit card companies are companies that are business to make money.  Paying $35,000 for a totaled rental car is not my idea of making money and is probably not theirs either.  There is probably some squirm room.  The Devil is in the details.

7) When you reserve most things, it is reserved and it is held.  From my experience, you also have to pay non-refundable money to reserve.  Since you do not pay money to reserve, the rental car will rent when you do not arrive on time for sure.  Since companies are there to make money for their owners or stockholders, what company in their right mind would hold a car for someone who might not show up when there is a customer on the premises that wants to rent your reserved car.  Remember that "a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush".  It is a hard fact of life.  Your idea of reservations is one reason airlines charge a lot but still have horrible profits.  Enterprise is not obligated to lose money.

8) Enterprise is one of the best companies to train, to learn how to run a business and to have on your resume.

9) Enterprise is a sales company that rents cars and fills a much needed service when the car you love gets sick and needs repair.

10) Rent a car, do not walk and do not bum.

Dear Failing Enterprise,

You people seriously don’t have a clue about how a rental car business works.  If you’re so determined that Enterprise is a “failing enterprise” then please open your own shop and show how it’s done.  Otherwise, might I suggest you find more productive use with your spare time as you must have a lot of it.

Dear Failing Enterprise,

Do you know that the leading cause of customer disputes is the customers failure to read or listen?  People only seem to see and hear what they want.  You are definitely that type of person.

I can not lie and say that I don't work 60 hour weeks or fight a never ending battle of find the car each day but I enjoy my job.  I have never heard of the CDW rate going up depending on the size of the vehicle.

Furthermore I am only human and so are you.  Of course I realize that you do not have a meaningful job besides bashing a home grown American success story but I bet that when you did work you fucked up on tons of occasions.  Maybe even 10 out of 15 times.

I have had some really horrible situations involving customers but each time I have done everything in my power to make it better.  Why is it that no one can understand that cars are man-made?  Do you plan for your brand new Toyota Camry to all of a sudden stop working?  We definitely don't either, we just roll with the punches.

Of course I don't agree with how each horror story was handled but that does not make the company itself a failure.  You can own the best business ever but at the end of the day you do not have total control over your employees.  Even with the most thorough screening they may have a lapse in judgment.

Relax and get a life!!!!

#38.  2006-07-22

Dear Failing Enterprise,

If Enterprise Rent-a-Car can't meet your expectations, stop going there.  Oh wait, you keep coming back.  Let me guess, you keep coming back probably because...

Reason #1--in all reality, we are probably the closest rental car company to your home/office/friends house, etc.

Reason #2--you never have ride to the rental car co. and we will pick your ass up.

Reason #3--we are the cheapest.

Reason #4--your company is paying for it. Hmm...why won't they pay for any other co?.

Reason #5--your insurance co "makes" you. Meaning, they will only pay when you rent from Enterprise. Again, I wonder why that is?

Reason #6--You would rather vent your frustrations about a bad rental experience over a computer terminal than pick up the phone and actually speak to a manager who may, some day, make your rental experience more enjoyable....It is perfect! Now you can always be miserable!

Do we make mistakes? Absolutely. Do we rent cars without gas?  Do we rent "your" full size car reservation to a family whose personal car just got totaled, is a little shaken up, and walks in without a reservation?  Yes and Yes....

However, will we listen to your complaints, try to fix the problem, and in the future, try to exceed your expectations so you continue to rent?  Yes.  And that is why we are the number one rental car company in America.

Sincerly, Level III manager, 5 year anniversary next month.

Dear Failing Enterprise,

This website is just for all the losers who didn't make it at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  It's a tough job to accomplish I will admit, but only the ones who know how to succeed will end up staying long enough to retire at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.  So all you losers who didn't make it, suck it up!

Dear Failing Enterprise,

Relax... it's just a car rental company.  Don't lose so much sleep over it.

Dear Failing Enterprise,

Sounds like you work for one of Enterprise's competitors!  Okay, sure you've had some bad times with them; why not use Budget or Hertz?  I don't understand your obsession with this firm that is so caustic that you would like to help bring it down!!

Dear Failing Enterprise,

In business and in life when people do not perform at their duties they can do one of three things: Quit Turn it around and become a success...or blame everyone else around them for their failures I'm guessing that you are doing # 3.  I am a proud Enterprise employee and this is a GREAT company.  I know that you created this website because you were an under-performer and things obviously did not go your way.  Grow up, stop being such a hater and change your miserable attitude!

YOU failed Enterprise, NOT the other way around!

E.P.

Dear Failing Enterprise,

This is the most pathetic bullshit I've ever heard.  If you know what your doing, this company will make you a lot of money.

#32.  2006-04-07

Dear Failing Enterprise,

I really don't want to spend as much time on this as you have.  I went to this site out of curiosity.  I can see that you have a real problem, not only with Enterprise but, with dealing with life in general.  I couldn't help but notice the section named We're An Internet Success Story!  Sounds like you have quite a following and you are proud of that.  F.Y.I. there have been many people through history with a large following: Adolf Hitler, Jim Jones, David Koresh, Charles Manson, Heaven's Gate.  Guess what?  They were all mentioned in Newsweek also!

Dear Failing Enterprise,

You have way too much spare time on your hands, son.  Find something productive to do.  Amazing things can happen when you stop whacking off and leave Mom and Dad’s basement.

Fuck You Hyppocrite!  There's not a shade of black or brown in your neighborhood.  Fuckin stupid whiteboy.

#28.  2006-02-26

Dear Failing Enterprise,

You have judged a couple of experiences at ONE branch of Enterprise and gone extremely overboard with this stupid site.

Of course there are going to be mishaps, Enterprise employees are only human.  I have rented from Enterprise once a week every week for a year and have never experienced anything that you are talking about.  I am a corporate customer, they give me the nicest vehicles they have on the lot and always offer good conversation and a smiling face.  And by the way if you need a full tank of gas you should suggest that by calling in your reservation, speaking to a person and simply asking for a full tank upon pick-up!  If you talk to people about the things you need, especially at Enterprise, you will get what you are looking for!

Judging by the way you have freaked out I seriously doubt that you were a "good customer."  I think the mere fact that you are wishing the company to go out of business is pathetic.  Enterprise employs millions of people all over the world-do you hope to find all of them unemployed?  I think all this world needs is a little patience and a little understanding-it will go a long way.  In general I would suggest that if you are so dissatisfied don't rent there.  End of story--it seems a bit much this site.

Signed,

A completely satisfied Enterprise Renter!

#27.  2006-02-23

Dear Failing Enterprise,

I've been an Enterprise employee for about a year, a lowly Management Assistant while I am finishing my MBA at the local university.  I am an employee who doesn't make an extra penny if 10,000 extra cars get rented in a day.  I read a large portion of the articles on your site, and I must admit, some of the things you say are true.

I really want you to understand something.  I'm not one of those employees who wakes up in the morning, wondering about new ways to sell CDW, maybe even role-playing those new ways with their roommates, or spouses, simply because I really don't want to rent cars for the rest of my life.  Those are the employees I make fun of...often.  I imagine those types of employees would defend Enterprise simply because they work there.  I'm also not one of those employees though, that doesn't care about how well they do.

I am typically at ! the top of the performance lists, and have won several awards and been recognized many times for my accomplishments (yes, I know, I basically make the company a lot of money for free).  I said that because I imagine you get a lot of mail from employees fussing at you for your diatribes against ERAC, which is totally your right to do.  I really just think that most of what I've read is not accurate.  You know, I would bet my job that you are telling the truth, and that you've had many bad experiences, and have been disrespected by many unethical managers.  I seriously doubt you would make this site unless what you've gone through was true.

However, I have never met a customer that has had the smallest fraction of problems you seem to have had.  I have Enterprise friends in 4 different states, six different regions, that I have asked, and neither have they.  (We're all in the Southeastern US though, not California...but you don't specify parts of the country in your complaints about ERAC).  One thing I don't get, is how you have made several derogatory references to our "Insurance," yet admit to being one who has frequently purchased it, and never damaged a car.  Why don't you rely on your own insurance and save the money you are whining about?  You seem like an intelligent-enough person to understand that.  What would you have to say to the guy that rented from my office last month, purchased CDW for $14.99/day, totaled the brand new Trailblazer he rented that my car prep had driven off the dealership lot earlier in the week, that didn't owe us an extra dime for?  I feel I should be honest with you though, he had the Trailblazer for 3 full days before that happened, and so he spent 45 bucks and tax, not 15 bucks and tax. (and yes, that truly happened).. and if you don't have insurance, why don't you just take responsibility for the full value of the rental car if you've had such an incredible track record of safe driving?

No Enterprise employee can ever force you to purchase it.  I'll be honest, I'll try to sell it all day, because the people that sign my paychecks want me to, but I have never even purchased it for myself once, as I rent frequently when I go see my parents (because my dog won't fit into my Jeep).

On a final note, thinking about your site, I just see you as a person, with such a pathetic, laughable existence, that has nothing better to do with their time, than to make this inaccurate, ignorant website, and take the time to send out postcards to 1900 branches.  Unbelievable.  My advice to you, which I guarantee you've heard before, is to just drop it, and to be a stronger person than to let a rental car company get to you like you have let ERAC.  I mean..think about it....it's a company that rents cars to people.  And here's a newsflash, which I'm not sure you're aware of. Enterprise is a COMPANY, run by FLAWED humans, and is in business for PROFIT (to make money).

If you hate Enterprise, it's totally cool. I think it's safe to say that Andy Taylor won't lose sleep over you renting somewhere else. Thanks for reading this, have a great week.

Matt

Dear Failing Enterprise,

I've gone through your website, you sound like a former employee who couldn't quite make it out of the MT program.  What's the matter, couldn't figure out the hose, couldn't balance the cash box?

You've got quite a bit of time on your hands.  Give us a call tomorrow, we'll set you up with the weekend special, we'll even come pick you up, just make sure you have a valid drivers license, credit card, and proof of insurance.  I can't guarantee a specific vehicle, but I can guarantee a size.  Remember, to qualify for the special you need to have the vehicle for a minimum of three days; that's one more day than two.

I definitely did not enjoy your website.  I have only one question for you - with your new little website project how do you have time to succeed in your present job?  I encourage you to reply to this e-mail.  I'll go to bat for my company any day of the week, and for every 10 reasons you knock us down, I'll throw out 20 reasons why we're better, so bring it on!

C.B.
